Physical Exam for College Health Form... no insurance.? I need to have a physician complete a health form for me to complete my college registration. I have proof of all of my immunizations, but I don't currently have health insurance. Have been out of high school for over 10 yrs so "try your high school nurse" is not an option. All I really need according to the form is height, weight, BP, vision and urinalysis. Every health center Ive tried contacting about a low cost physical just tells me they're not accepting new patients (even after I explain I just need a one-time service.) I have heard that colleges don't even have to right to verify any of the information on the health form due to health information privacy laws... so whats to stop me from just picking a doctor from the phone book and signing his name on my form if there's no way to verify it? I have also heard others say you can just take the form to ANY kind of health care provider, even a local pharmacist, and they will just complete it for you if its for school and if you can give proof of your immunizations. Would love to hear any recommendations on how I can get this form completed. Don't have alot of money I can spare for it and only have a few more weeks before it's due. Thanks!

How do you make a health service youth & adolescent friendly? Am the only youth (don't know how this was so) in a working committee to set up youth and adolescent health centres in Papua New Guinea; services will cover any health and social issue regarding young people from 10-24 years old. It's about providing a haven & a place for self empowerment through information dissemination, health service provision, and such things as skills training (eg. basic literacy & carpentry). Have already conducted a base-line study & such, but it'd be really helpful to hear your views - especially from other youths in those countries who've already have such programmes running. Thanks in advance!

Do you want 0bama and everyone in his administration to have all access to your IRS information? August 26, 2009 8:26 PM Declan McCullagh - Democratic Health Care Bill Divulges IRS Tax Data Posted by Declan McCullagh (AP) One of the problems with any proposed law that's over 1,000 pages long and constantly changing is that much deviltry can lie in the details. Take the Democrats' proposal to rewrite health care policy, better known as H.R. 3200 or by opponents as "Obamacare." Section 431(a) of the bill says that the IRS must divulge taxpayer identity information, including the filing status, the modified adjusted gross income, the number of dependents, and "other information as is prescribed by" regulation. That information will be provided to the new Health Choices Commissioner and state health programs and used to determine who qualifies for "affordability credits." Section 245(b)(2)(A) says the IRS must divulge tax return details -- there's no specified limit on what's available or unavailable -- to the Health Choices Commissioner. The purpose, again, is to verify "affordability credits." Section 1801(a) says that the Social Security Administration can obtain tax return data on anyone who may be eligible for a "low-income prescription drug subsidy" but has not applied for it. Over at the Institute for Policy Innovation (a free-market think tank and presumably no fan of Obamacare), Tom Giovanetti argues that: "How many thousands of federal employees will have access to your records? The privacy of your health records will be only as good as the most nosy, most dishonest and most malcontented federal employee.... So say good-bye to privacy from the federal government. It was fun while it lasted for 233 years." I'm not as certain as Giovanetti that this represents privacy's Armageddon. (Though I do wonder where the usual suspects like the Electronic Privacy Information Center are. Presumably inserting limits on information that can be disclosed -- and adding strict penalties on misuse of the information kept on file about hundreds of millions of Americans -- is at least as important as fretting about Facebook's privacy policy in Canada.) A better candidate for a future privacy crisis is the so-called stimulus bill enacted with limited debate early this year. It mandated the "utilization of an electronic health record for each person in the United States by 2014," but included only limited privacy protections. It's true that if the legislative branch chooses to create "affordability credits," it probably makes sense to ensure they're not abused. The goal of curbing fraud runs up against the goal of preserving individual privacy. If we're going to have such significant additional government intrusion into our health care system, we will have to draw the privacy line somewhere. Maybe the House Democrats' current bill gets it right. Maybe it doesn't. But this vignette should be reason to be skeptical of claims that a massive and complex bill must be enacted as rapidly as its backers would have you believe. Update August 27 11 a.m: Marc Rotenberg of the Electronic Privacy Information Center says in e-mail: "We would oppose section 431(a) of the bill because it violates the intent of the Privacy Act which generally requires agencies to obtain information directly from individuals and not from other agencies." EPIC still hasn't updated their Web site to reflect this sentiment, but it's good to know that other folks have concerns too. ________________________________________ Declan McCullagh is a correspondent for CBSNews.com. autism and vaccines... ?? information? Just thought i would let all of you know what was posted today on aol news... what are your thoughts on vaccines causing autism? have you vaccinated your children? WASHINGTON (Feb. 12) - In a big blow to parents who believe vaccines caused their children's autism, a special court ruled Thursday that the shots are not to blame. The court said the evidence was overwhelmingly contrary to the parents' claims — and backed years of science that found no risk. It was abundantly clear that petitioners' theories of causation were speculative and unpersuasive," the court concluded in one of a trio of cases ruled on Thursday. The ruling was anxiously awaited by health authorities and families who began presenting evidence in June 2007. More than 5,500 claims have been filed by families seeking compensation through the government's Vaccine Injury Compensation Program. The claims are reviewed by special masters serving on the U.S. Court of Claims. "Hopefully, the determination by the special masters will help reassure parents that vaccines do not cause autism," the Department of Health and Human Services said in a statement. An attorney for the families did not respond immediately to a request for comment. But the head of one consumer group that questions vaccine safety, the National Vaccine Information Center, said the court's ruling will do little to change the minds of most parents who suspect a link between vaccines and autism. She said more studies are needed. "I think it is a mistake to conclude that, because these few test cases were denied compensation, it's been decided vaccines don't play any role in regressive autism," said Barbara Loe Fisher, the center's president. To win, the families' attorneys had to show that it was more likely than not that the autistic symptoms in the children were directly related to a combination of the measles-mumps-rubella shots and other shots that at the time carried a mercury-containing preservative called thimerosal. The ruling means that families filing claims based on that theory — potentially thousands — aren't entitled to federal compensation, though they can appeal. "It's a great day for science, it's a great day for America's children when the court rules in favor of science." said Dr. Paul Offit of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The court still has to rule on separate claims from other families who contend that, rather than a specific vaccine combination, the lone culprit could be thimerosal, a preservative that is no longer in most routine children's vaccines. But in Thursday's rulings, the court may have sent a signal on those cases, too: "The petitioners have failed to demonstrate that thimerosal-containing vaccines can contribute to causing immune dysfunction," one of the court's special masters wrote. In 2001, parents of children with autism began filing petitions for compensation through the vaccine compensation program. Of the 12,850 cases ever filed through the program, about 5,535 represented autism cases. The petitioners originally sought to present three different theories of how vaccines could cause autism. For each theory, there were to be three test cases. Under the government's vaccine compensation program, awards to the estate in a vaccine-related death are limited to $250,000 plus attorneys' fees and costs. Awards to individuals with an injury judged to be vaccine-related have averaged more than $1 million. More than half a million U.S. children have autism with costly health care needs that often put an unprecedented financial strain on their families, national data show. Autism is characterized by impaired social interaction. Those affected often have trouble communicating, and they exhibit unusual or severely limited activities and interests. http://news.aol.com/health/article/autism-measles-vaccine-ruling/340518 what is your take on all this? Oh, i didnt think it was linked whatsoever. My son has had all his vaccinations, and any other children i have will be vaccinated as well.
Where can I find out more information on the following subjects? My father sent me the following information. My questions follow in paranthesis. Yes, I could ask him for more details, but at 81 yrs old getting this information was a miracle. The very first (medical) practice I worked for was my own. I set up private practice in my home town of west frankfort in 1954. (That would be in Franklin county, Illinois. - How do I get the name of the practice or any other records on it for that year?) The following year I was offered the position of Director of Health Service at SIU, which I accepted. (This would be Southern Illinois University in or near Carbondale, Illinois, 1955.) I stayed there until 1971 (Would like to know how I can track down records on that by e-mail if possible.) when I left to join Bob Walker in Indiana to found BEDS Inc, so I worked for myself again (in a group of Docs) for the next 10 yrs. (Wed site and/or history of Beds Inc.?) I left in '81 to join the Health Service at ASU (Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. He worked at the Student Health Center & was also the sports team doctor for a short time. How would I find documentation to verify this?) where I worked for about 17 yrs before coming to Flagstaff. While 'retired' I worked part-time at the Health Service at NAU. In 1962 I got a Sabatical from SIU and went to Mashoko for 9 months. (Moshoko was in Rhodesia, Africa. Now it goes by a different name. I would like to know what that name is and if the mission hospital there still exists. Rhodesia is now Zimbabwe. I think that the name change came after '74.) In 1974 I went to S. Rhodesia and worked in Dr Gottliebs practice for 4 months In 1985 I went to Kenya and worked at Tenwek Hospital for several months. In 1987 I went to Niger and worked at Galmi Hospital for several months. I believe that the last two or three lines of his statement are presently academic. I'm sure that I can find the information on a Google search. The other stuff has been difficult to find. His name is Dr. Richard V. Lee and I am his son. I would like to surprise him for his birthday with a written biography on this information for nostalgic reasons. Your help is sincerely appreciated!

I would like some information about online colleges.? Well, rather than search endlessly on the interweb I am hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. Pretty much exactly what I want is to find a site(s) that can offer a very nice, as affordable as possible, accredited online degree. More specifically as an RN......or first an LPN then to an RN, however it's done I'm not 100% yet. But I would very much like to work in a mental health center/hospital, odd as it may sound. So, I am looking for a program that can meet all the requirements for me to be able to get a job in this sort of field, whether it be an assistant, research, etc....the specific title isn't decided yet, but the general field I have taken a keen interest in. Any information will be of great help. Thanks.

Do you believe this message from johnson about animal testing? Thank you for contacting the Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies, Inc. Information Center. It is always important to hear from our consumers, and we appreciate the time you have taken to contact us. The ingredients in our companies’ nonprescription skin and hair care products have been proven safe historically, so instead of using laboratory animals to assess the safety of these formulations, the companies perform a number of predictive tests in humans. Any new ingredients, however, would require appropriate safety validation that might include laboratory animals. As health care products manufacturers, Johnson & Johnson companies have a responsibility to assure the safety of its products for intended use and in the event of accidental misuse. The primary means of providing this assurance continues to be the judicious and ethical use of laboratory animal and in vitro (test tube) tests. Johnson & Johnson companies use numerous in vitro or “alternative” methods in testing new compounds and new product formulations. In fact, the companies presently use more than 160 different alternative tests in research, and we are spending more than $92 million each year in using and developing non-animal tests. Ultimately, however, testing with a minimum number of animals is necessary to fully assure safety. The companies use as few animals as possible, mostly mice and rats, and when safety is established, new product formulations are no longer tested. We use tests other than the classical LD50 – such as the “limit dose method” which requires one-fourth or fewer laboratory animals. During eye safety tests, our formulations are so mild and gentle that there is no need to restrain animals, and for skin irritation studies we rely heavily on human volunteers or non-traditional tests that require fewer animals. While there presently is not a single validated alternative test that can fully replace whole animal testing, Johnson & Johnson companies are committed to seeing alternatives through internal efforts as well as by supporting studies at outside research facilities. As alternative forms are validated, please be assured that Johnson & Johnson companies will take the lead in implementing them in its testing programs. To learn more about our policies, we invite you to see more information on our website. i sent them a message complaining, but they sent me this. but ive seen videos from aveeno about showing them animal testing. what do you think?
What right do private university professors have to ask for my private medical information? I was sick recently and my doctor from the student health center notified my dean who notified my professors of my illness because that is the standard protocol at my school. I had to makeup a math test because of my illness, and my professor refused to allow me to makeup the test until she had verification of my illness. She said that the dean's email was not sufficient and asked to see my prescriptions. I complied because my illness was not embarrassing but it got me thinking about if what she did is legal. If I had been treated for an STD, for example, I might have been a lot less willing to be forthcoming with my medical history. Are employees at private universities allowed to ask for confidential medical information?
Do RN's have access to anyone's private medical information? Here's the situation: my wife had a lesbian stalker back in college. The lesbian recently graduated as an RN from the same university's Health Science Center that my wife first saw a doctor for the pregnancy. We never told anyone the due date, but the lesbian called up my wife's brother (lesbian had the number because she stole my wife's phone) and asked if my wife is having a baby in 2 days on August 6th (Aug. 6 was the exact due date). My wife already had the baby, but it was still really weird because we didn't know how she got that information. My question is this: can an RN look up medical history for anyone they want to, or just medical history from a person at a certain hospital, or what? If so, and if she did that, this is a serious violation, and I want to report her for doing it.
Anyone know what you can do with an associates degree in Fitness and health degree? I'm looking in to the field because I have a great passion for fitness and believe I would enjoy being apart of a healthy environment teaching people how to get or stay healthy. I want to own my own Fitness center one day. I'm looking for only serious answers to my question and maybe someone who is already in the field. Do you have a variety of options to explore in this field of work or does it get pretty routine? Could you maybe give me a direction on how to get more information about the field......THanks a bunch! : >

do psychological services in universities report to the student's professors/peers? if the student tells the therapist they're seeing that they're suicidal? or they they keep this confidential. my friend sees a psychologist at the university's health center and she feels like ever since even her professors have been acting differently towards her. i know that universities have to keep everything except for suicide and possible harm to someone confidential. but would they actually tell a students professors this information?

How can I have my wife released from a mental health facility if she and her rights are being violated? I have a concern in reference to my wife. She is bipolar and pregnant which meant that her medication wasn't’t working as well as it should. Due to lack of concentration and focus, I admitted her to a mental health facility so that they may find a way to manage/change her meds. This was over 1 month ago. Since this time, my wholesome Christian wife has been exposed to vulgar language, has picked up profanity, has learned of prostitution and drugs. Worst yet, she has been violated (touched) on 3 occasions. This is absolutely not what I (we) signed up for. Most recently was last week when a patient touched the front of her genitalia. This is absolutely unacceptable! At this point, I decided to have her released. After all, she went in voluntarily. She made the request which meant that an MD had 4 hours to respond. Shouldn't be her decision to make? I arrived and the doctor began looking at me harshly through the window. He came out with a nurse and was instantly agitated stating that he is “tired of having to come up here”. First of all, it is his job. Secondly, he was on staff in the clinic. From what I have seen, much of the staff tends to stay in the office and drink coffee ignoring patients request. They hand them crayons and let them watch TV. This isn't’t therapeutic in my opinion. I fully understand that patients may become stir crazy and want out even if they feel that they are okay. However, I know my wife better than the doctors, better than staff, and better than her family. She is my very best friend. In addition to being my wife, we share everything together. Most importantly, I know her personality and changes in it and I see that she has improved. Back to this doctor. After explaining these concerns the nurse said that she was not violated…that she is lying. I explained that when I arrived that I walked into her room where she was crying to a CA and telling the story. The nurse said “no you didn’t…it never happened”. Now I was lying?? I then asked why that patient was placed on restriction and moved to a different floor unless there were complaints. At which the nurse said that he wasn’t. This patient was obviously very ill and I doubt that he was released. This again was the third time that she has been violated which is why I had her switched from the 3rd to the 2nd floor. The doctor then became combative though I was speaking calmly yet sternly due to the lying accusations. He told me that I had no authority and that he is going to get a court order. I again tried to explain my concerns. I stated that emotionally this has been difficult on her and she is not receiving the treatment that we anticipated. I told them that I know longer wanted her to continue with ECT due to my wife being pregnant. He said that was her decision and not mine. I told him that I would tell her (which she decided to have one more if it meant that she could be released). The MD said if she refused that he could court order that as well and that she is a danger to herself. Not once has my wife attempted suicide. She was depressed a year ago due to our separation and the loss of her father. We now have 2 beautiful little girls and a baby on the way. She would never take her life. And running an electrical current through her brain should be her decision to make. This is a medical clinic…not a prison after all. The doctor became so angry that he walked into the center room with the nurse. He began yelling and pointing to me, speaking to the nurse. Worst yet, he began being very obscene and using profanity about me. I heard him say: ‘F’ this guy, he has no ‘F-ing’ clue what he is talking about. And knocked on the door and said “you do realize this is glass and that I can hear you”. The nurse later said he was speaking to her. This for one wasn’t true. And secondly, by saying that she admitted that he was indeed cursing. This was unprofessional, childish, and disrespectful. What sort of ethics did he learn in med school?? I then mentioned getting an attorney. After that, they took my wife’s 'blue band'. After 30 days, she earned that and had only been outside twice. It was petty and spiteful. She earned that right after a month to once again be a part of the real world as opposed to the lack of reality she has endured. Staff has discussed her treatment with her family when there is no release of information signed by my wife. This is a direct violation of HIPAA. She has asked to speak to her doctor and the social worker said that she was not there…walked into a room…and there we saw her doctor sitting as the door closed. She lied to us yet we have been called liars. My wife has been violated and disrespected. She is easily intimidated so she goes along with much of this out of fear the staff will keep her longer. She and I now feel that she is a prisoner more than a patient. Someone to be a bed filler so the clinic can collect it’s money from the insurance. Her being admitted has even cost us our children. CPS now has them and we cannot get them back as long as she is in there. She can’t even see them now that her blue band was taken away. My wife has been violated and so have her rights. This is all unacceptable and has been a nightmare. I am so regretful for bringing her in and will never make this mistake again. My question is…what can I do to have her released. Do I need to begin contacting an attorney? Do I need to contact the Office for Civil Rights to report the HIPAA violation as well as the Advocacy for Mental Health? I will do whatever I need to in order to protect my wife and prevent anything further to happen to her or her well being. My once innocent and loving Christian wife is being returned to me and our children now somewhat tainted by her experience in this clinic. These memories will always be there and I will forever regret subjecting my wife to this treatment.
Have you read the Health Care Proposal? BARACK OBAMA AND JOE BIDEN’S PLAN TO LOWER HEALTH CARE COSTS AND ENSURE AFFORDABLE, ACCESSIBLE HEALTH COVERAGE FOR ALL Health care costs are skyrocketing. Health insurance premiums have doubled in the last 8 years, rising 3.7 times faster than wages in the past 8 years, and increasing co-pays and deductibles threaten access to care.1 Many insurance plans cover only a limited number of doctors’ visits or hospital days, exposing families to unlimited financial liability. Over half of all personal bankruptcies today are caused by medical bills.2 Lack of affordable health care is compounded by serious flaws in our health care delivery system. About 100,000 Americans die from medical errors in hospitals every year.3 One-quarter of all medical spending goes to administrative and overhead costs, and reliance on antiquated paper-based record and information systems needlessly increases these costs.4 Tens of millions of Americans are uninsured because of rising costs. Over 45 million Americans5— including over 8 million children6—lack health insurance. Eighty percent of the uninsured are in working families.7 Even those with health coverage are struggling to cope with soaring medical costs. Skyrocketing health care costs are making it increasingly difficult for employers, particularly small businesses, to provide health insurance to their employees. Underinvestment in prevention and public health. Too many Americans go without high-value preventive services, such as cancer screening and immunizations to protect against flu or pneumonia. The nation faces epidemics of obesity and chronic diseases as well as new threats of pandemic flu and bioterrorism. Yet despite all of this less than 4 cents of every health care dollar is spent on prevention and public health.8 Our health care system has become a disease care system, and the time for change is well overdue. OBAMA-BIDEN PLAN TO PROVIDE AFFORDABLE, ACCESSIBLE HEALTH CARE TO ALL Barack Obama and Joe Biden’s plan strengthens employer–based coverage, makes insurance companies accountable and ensures patient choice of doctor and care without government interference. Under the plan, if you like your current health insurance, nothing changes, except your costs will go down by as much as $2,500 per year. If you don’t have health insurance, you will have a choice of new, affordable health insurance options. Inefficient and poor quality care costs the nation at least $50 to $100 billion every year.9 Billions more are wasted on administration and overhead because of inefficiencies in the health care system.10 And given current trends, this problem will only get worse as health care spending is expected to double within the next decade.11 A growing body of research points to substantial opportunities to improve quality while reducing the costs of care. Health care systems in many parts of the country deliver high quality care to the populations they serve at half the cost of other equally renowned academic medical centers in other parts of the country.12 The key is to provide information, incentives and support to help physicians and others work together to improve quality of care while reducing costs. Barack Obama and Joe Biden believe we must redesign our health system to reduce inefficiency and waste and improve health care quality, which will drive down costs for families and individuals. The Obama-Biden plan will improve efficiency and lower costs in the health care system by: (1) adopting state-of-the-art health information technology systems; (2) ensuring that patients receive and providers deliver the best possible care, including prevention and chronic disease management services; (3) reforming our market structure to increase competition; and offering federal reinsurance to employers to help ensure that unexpected or catastrophic illnesses do not make health insurance unaffordable or out of reach for businesses and their employees. (1) INVEST IN ELECTRONIC HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SYSTEMS. Most medical records are still stored on paper, which makes them difficult to use to coordinate care, measure quality, or reduce medical errors. Processing paper claims also costs twice as much as processing electronic claims.13 Barack Obama and Joe Biden will invest $10 billion a year over the next five years to move the U.S. health care system to broad adoption of standards-based electronic health information systems, including electronic health records. They will also phase in requirements for full implementation of health IT and commit the necessary federal resources to make it happen. Barack Obama and Joe Biden will ensure that these systems are developed in coordination with providers and frontline workers, including those in rural and underserved areas. Barack Obama and Joe Biden will ensure that patients’ privacy is protected. A study by the Rand Corporation found that if most hospitals and doctors offices adopted electro look it up i did dont be lazy about it

i got this email from Iams bc i emailed them lol? i emailed them bout how they treat animals lol and they email me bk with this Thank you for contacting us. Unfortunately, there is highly inaccurate and misleading information circulating on the Internet regarding our feeding studies, and I’m glad you’ve given me the opportunity to provide you with the facts. We too are passionate about cats and dogs, with a deep commitment to their health and welfare. We are accountable for making sure that our products are wholesome, and that consumers can feed them with confidence. Instead of contracting other companies to conduct our feeding studies, we choose to conduct such studies in the homes of our employee families. Today, over 600 employee families participate in our in-home testing program. Even though the vast majority of our studies are conducted in an in-home setting, there are some studies that require in-depth data gathering in a more controlled environment. We do this type of feeding study in our company-owned Pet Health and Nutrition Center . These studies follow our industry leading research protocol and are the veterinary equivalent of nutritional or medical studies acceptable on people. The studies are monitored by our own staff of veterinarians, behaviorists and independent experts. Our Pet Health and Nutrition Center is a state-of-the-art facility. Our dogs and cats live in a cageless environment, receiving proper socialization in an enriched setting. Because dogs are pack animals, our dogs are housed with a companion. Each kennel has a doggie-door that takes them to an outside run, giving them lots of room for running and playing. Each dog is provided with his or her own toys (rotated on a regular basis) and their very own comfortable bed to sleep on. There is also a dog park adjacent to the kennels where the dogs play and interact each day in play groups. Our cats are housed in compatible social groups. Each room is furnished with beds, toys (to stimulate play) and several perches, which allow our cats to observe things from a higher viewpoint. Each cat room also has a very large window with a platform where our cats can lay in the sun or watch the birds feeding at the outside bird feeders. All of our dogs and cats reach a point in their life when it’s time to leave the Pet Health and Nutrition Center . That is when they are either adopted into a home or placed into our retirement facility. Either way, they will live out their lives in comfort with good food, good companionship, and good veterinary care. In 2007 we had several members of the news media tour our facility. Their reports are available at: http://www.iamstruth.com/iamstruth/en_US/jhtmls/landing/IT_Landing_Page.jhtml?li=en_US&pti=PP If you are interested in reading more, please visit www.IamsTruth.com. Closures and curfews Collective punishment: Affects 3 million Palestinians in West Bank & Gaza Strip. The most severe and sustained set of movement restrictions imposed since the beginning of the occupation in 196723. - No access to medical care - Movement restrictions on medical personnel / supplies Internal closures and siege: 120 Israeli checkpoints in WB & GS. These and road blocks divide West Bank into 300 separate clusters and the Gaza Strip into 3 separate clusters. Severe internal closure: West Bank: 66% of days, Partial internal closure: West Bank: 34%, Gaza 94% of days24 Closure causes humanitarian problems such as water and gas shortages (ed Beit Furik & Beit Dajan). Other examples: Residents of Al Mawasi ‘tagged’ with identity numbers, so that Israeli army can permit them minimum movement in and out of area. Israel erected electric gate at entrance to al Sifa, residents permitted movement in/out only from 7-9am and 3-5pm. May 2002: Israeli government introduces new personal permit regime and makes movement between Palestinian towns in the West Bank impossible. The Bantustanization of the Palestinian territories is complete. Construction of “separation” fence between the West Bank and Israel started. External closures: West Bank and Gaza Strip sealed off from the rest of the world. Gaza International airport been closed since February 2001; “safe passage” between Gaza Strip & West Bank closed since Oct. 2000 (Oslo accords forbid its closure); frequent lengthy closure of bridge to Jordan, border with Egypt (Rafah entrance), entrances to Israel (Al-Mintar and Beit Hanoun crossings). Since the beginning of March 2002 the Israeli army has repeatedly invaded areas under Palestinian control and placed towns and villages under prolonged curfew. Palestinian arrests and detention by Israeli authorities-It is estimated that since the 29th of March 2002, 15,000 Palestinians have been detained, 6,000 of who remain in prison. Of these, 1,700 Palestinians are under administrative detention25 meaning they have not had a trial, and are imprisoned without charges being brought against them. 350 Palestinian children currently held in Israeli prisons and detention centers inside Israel and in the West Bank. Of these around 30 are held in administrative detention26. Many of the prisoners are subjected to torture and do not receive adequate medical care. Property Damage Attacks on residential areas (Collective punishment)-During the first 15 months of the Intifada physical damage amounted to US$ 305 million27. During the month long invasion in March/April the Israeli army destroyed and looted US$ 361 million worth of property28 Since the beginning of the Intifada until February 2002: Shelling & demolition destroyed 720 homes completely, and 11,553 damaged. 73,600 people were affected29. 30 mosques, 12 churches30, 134 water wells31, cemeteries. 34,606 olive & fruit trees uprooted32 & 1162.4 dunums of land confiscated33, 14,339 dunums of land bulldozed or burned34. During the March-April invasion: 881 homes destroyed, 2,883 houses in refugee camps damaged affecting 22,500 people living in those houses35. Gaza strip: more than 601 houses completely demolished, approx. 16,000 dunums (16 million square meters of land), mostly agricultural razed by the Israeli army36 Education (Collective punishment-MoE reports 850 schools temporarily closed, 8 schools turned into military barracks. 185 schools were shelled and fired upon by Israeli soldiers; 11 schools completely destroyed, 9 vandalized. 15 schools used as detention centers and army barracks. 132 Palestinian students killed and 2,500 injured on their way to or from school 1135 school days have been lost because of Israeli attacks37. During the long invasion in March/April 2002 54, 730 teaching sessions per day were lost due the complete cessation of classes Economic conditions (Collective punishment) -Total income losses to Palestinian economy est. between $ 3.2-10 billion (income only, does not include cost of destruction of public and private property). Daily domestic losses: $6.0 – 8.6 million/business day Total wage income loss: $59.4 million Unemployment: Gaza 67%, West Bank 48% 75% of Palestinians living in poverty (less than $2 a day): 84.6% in Gaza and 57.8% in the West Bank38 Economic losses forcing 69% of Palestinian firms either to shut down or reduce production39 51% drop in GNP.40 Israel prevents 125,000 Palestinians from going to work41. The World Bank estimates that in case of a solution to the conflict and lifting of the closure it will take at least 2 years for the Palestinian economy to restore to a pre-Intifada per capita income level42 UN Resolutions/ Reports: Condemning Israel for disproportionate and excessive use of force against Palestinian civilians and failure to adhere to international laws.-7 May 2002: UN General Assembly, 10th Emergency Special Session resumed. We recently had a health claim denied even with confirmation number and a letter of benefits? Recently my husband had to have a sleep study done. The Sleep Center and the Home Health Care supplier contacted the insurance company to find out benefits. The Health Care Supplier received a letter of benefits and a confirmation number to supply my husband with a BI-pap machine. They have now denied to claim stating that the confirmation number was not submitted with the claim. The billing office submitted the claim electronically and some where along the lines the confirmation number did not make it. What recourse do we have? They (the insurance company) are saying it's a done deal which I thought there was an appeal process? I thought if information was missing they normally requested it before they denied it?
Second Hand Smoke and Pets - important information DO NOT REPORT? Someone reported my question and had it deleted, I posted it for people that actually care about their pets health. I know it's not a question but there are people who may be interested in this article. Some people may find it interesting. Health officials often talk about the dangers of living with a smoker, but few pet parents are aware that our animal companions face similar risks—from respiratory problems to cancer—when exposed to secondhand smoke. New research suggests that secondhand smoke is unsafe at all levels—for humans and pets—so it's time to get serious about ditching those butts for good. One recent study shows that nearly 30 percent of pets live with at least one smoker. This is a grave concern, according to Dr. Sharon Gwaltney-Brant, Medical Director of the ASPCA's Animal Poison Control Center, since secondhand smoke can damage the nervous systems of both cats and dogs. "Tobacco smoke has been shown to contain numerous cancer-causing compounds, making it hazardous for animals as well as humans," says Dr. Gwaltney-Brant. "Exposure to secondhand smoke can cause many of the same harmful inflammatory changes in the airways and lungs of dogs as their human counterparts." Cats who live with smokers are prone to developing malignant lymphoma, perhaps as a result of ingesting carcinogenic residue when it settles on their fur. Kitty's canine counterparts are especially vulnerable to secondhand smoke's respiratory effects, and can develop life-threatening nasal and lung cancers. Nicotine—found in cigarettes and other tobacco products—is also highly toxic to animals if ingested. A dog who accidentally eats tobacco may develop weakness, muscle twitching, decreased breathing rate, and finally collapse, coma and possibly death. The ASPCA strongly recommends keeping your pet away from tobacco as well as secondhand smoke. In honor of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month this April, why not resolve to avoid smoking around your pet? Smoke outside and preserve the lungs of your two- and four-legged family members. Or better yet, toss those cigarettes in the trash—your pet will thank you! For more information about protecting the health of your furry friend, please visit the ASPCA’s Guide to Pet Care. cassie_331 - I have already said that this is not a question, it's just some information that some people may not have known before. I should have known I'd get all negative answers, I am not trying to get anyone to change just to be more aware of it.
Do I need to have a license to become a 'Life Coach'? I live in Missouri and I am interested in advertising my services as a Life Coach. Is any particular licensing necessary in most states, or (if you know) specifically in Missouri? Are there specific guidelines that I must follow with respect to how I advertise my services and conduct my business? Or is this field largely unregulated at present? I've seen many "new age", health, and business centers offer 'Life Coaching' but I have always wondered if this is 100% legal. In general, what might be considered the line between offering therapy and Life Counseling? Any information you can provide in this regard would be most appreciated. Thanks!
how many pple really get all their victims rights? MY NAME IS JENNAH. I WAS RAPED BY MY BIOLOGICAL FATHER, NORMAN, WHEN I WAS 18YRS OLD. I AM NOT GOING INTO DETAILS AS I BELIEVE THEY ARE UNNECESSARY AND IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MORE YOU CAN EMAIL ME AT jennah_z@yahoo. com. HE WAS CONVICTED OF 2ND DEGREE SEXUAL ASSAULT OF A MINOR AND INCEST.... I HAVE CALLED THE PRISON HE IS IN 2 TIMES. I WANT TO CONFRONT MY FATHER, TALK TO HIM ABOUT THINGS. IN THE "VICTIMS RIGHTS" I HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO. THE FIRST TIME I CALLED THE PERSON (A WOMAN) I TALKED TO TREATED ME LIKE THE BAD GUY! I FELT AS IF I WAS DOING WRONG TRYING TO GET MEDICAL INFORMATION FOR MY HEALTH. WHEN I ASKED IF I WOULD BE ABLE TO TALK TO MY FATHER SHE TOLD ME IT WOULDN'T BE GOOD FOR ME. HOW DOES SHE KNOW WHAT I NEED? I HAD NEVER MET HER. I WANT CLOSURE. THAT TOTALLY UPSET ME. THEY WERE ALSO CONCERNED ABOUT HIS REHABILITATION. ....WHAT THE HELL? SHOULDN'T THEY BE CONCERNED ABOUT THE VICTIM FIRST? THESE RAPISTS HURT OTHERS, POSSIBLY MAKING THEIR LIFE HELL FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES. MAKING THEM LIVE WITH FEARS, AND NIGHTMARES. I DON'T THINK THEY SHOULD COME FIRST! I THINK THE VICTIM SHOULD. THE SECOND TIME I PHONED THE PRISON I GOT A VOICE MAIL PRESSED SO I PRESSED 0 FOR AN EMERGENCY ,THEY THEN TRANSFERRED ME TO ANOTHER VOICE MAIL. I AGAIN PRESSED 0 (FOR AN EMERGENCY) ONE MORE TIME AND I WAS TRANSFERRED TO A GUARD HE ASKED IF IT WAS IMPORTANT, I SAID YES, HE TOLD ME HE WOULD GET SOMEONE FOR ME IMMEDIATELY. AND I WAITED ON HOLD FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES AND THEN AGAIN GOT VOICE MAIL. I LEFT A MESSAGE ONCE AGAIN FOR THEM TO CALL ME. THEN I CALLED THE VINE SYSTEM TALKED TO A PERSON AND FOUND OUT HE COMES UP FOR PAROLE IN OCTOBER OF 08. THE VICTIM OFFENDER DIALOG WAS REFERRED TO A BARB IN JANUARY 2007 AND NO ONE EVER CONTACTED ME AFTER THAT. THEY NOW PROMISE THAT I WILL HEAR FROM THEM IN A WEEK OR SO. VICTIMS RIGHTS NEED TO BE IN FORCED AND THEY NEED TO HAVE RESTITUTION NO MATTER WHAT THE CRIME. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO REOPEN RESTITUTION IF A NEW PROBLEM STARTS UP OR SOMETHING HAPPENS BECAUSE OF THE CRIME LATER IN LIFE. BECAUSE THERE WAS NO PHYSICAL DAMAGE TO ME OR MY BELONGINGS I DON'T GET ANY RESTITUTION. I WILL BE ON MEDICATION ALL OF MY LIFE, I AM DISABLED BECAUSE OF THIS, I HAVE TO SEE DOCTORS, COUNCILORS AND PAY FOR GAS TO GET TO THEM. THIS IS FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. I ALSO STRUGGLE RAISING MY ELDEST DAUGHTER BECAUSE OF MY DISORDERS. I GOT INVOLVED IN DRUGS TO MASK MY FEELINGS RIGHT AFTER THIS HAPPENED AND LOST ALL MY CHILDREN. MY TWO BABY'S ALLISSANDRA LEELYNN BORN JUNE 28 LIVED IN MILWAUKEE THE LAST I KNEW(05). SERENITY MARIE BORN 02-07 LIVES IN NORTHERN WISCONSIN (06). I AM NOT ALLOWED TO SEE MY DAUGHTERS. I HAVE BEEN CLEAN FOR 3YEARS NOW. HOW CAN YOU PUT RESTITUTION ON LIVES LIKE THAT? I DID GET MY ELDEST TIFFANY DOB 12-3 BACK AND NOW I HAVE PRIMARY PHYSICAL PLACEMENT OF HER. I COULD TAKE CARE OF MY CHILDREN NOW. BUT ITS TOO LATE. I KNOW THIS IS PARTLY MY FAULT BUT IT IS PARTLY HIS. I CANT HAVE ANYMORE CHILDREN WITHOUT IVF AND THATS 11600. I DON'T HAVE THAT MONEY I AM DISABLED AND MY HUSBAND WORKS IN A FACTORY. INSURANCE DOESN'T COVER IT. I GOT MY TUBES TIED BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT TO BRING ANOTHER CHILD INTO A WORLD LIKE THIS. NOW I WANT TO SO THEY CAN HELP CHANGE IT BUT IT IS TOO LATE. THIS IS THE LETTER I AM SENDING OUT TO THE PRISON AND WHO EVER WILL LISTEN. MAYBE IF WE ALL GET TOGETHER WE CAN GET THIS FIXED. I DON'T WANT ANOTHER GIRL TO GO THROUGH WHAT I DID. AT THE BOTTOM IS A LIST OF VICTIMS RIGHTS THAT I FOUND ON THE WISCONSIN SEX OFFENDERS LIST. WISH THEY WORKED. To Whom it May Concern; 11/29/07 I am writing in regards to Norman Wilson DOC ID#: 00375807. My name is Jenifer and I am the victim of the crime, and his daughter, that he is currently serving time in Oshkosh Correctional Institution for. There are many different things that I need to say in this letter so that you fully understand the impact this has had and still has on me and my family. But first, I need to request some form of closure in this matter for me so that I am able to finally move on. I have requested this by pone and through the V.I.N.E. (VICTIM )It has been almost 9 years. This is the closure that I need very badly. My father has Hep C and is dieing. Before he dies I need to be able to speak with him so that i can move on. I do not care if it is a phone call, in a visit setting, or however else you could imagine to arrange this meeting. I really need to try to make him understand that he is still my father and I love him but at the same time I hurt and cannot forgive him. I need to tell him how this is effecting my family, my husband and daughter, and myself. I NEED to ask him "why". The answers he gives matters and at the same time doesn't matter to me at all. I just need an answer. I need to be able to ask. I would write him but writing would only give him time to think about his responses and fake emotion. I also don't believe that option will be a good closure to me. I also think he would be able to lie (better if he is or would lie). Hearing him or seeing him will tell me his emotions on the matter. I need to see if I can find at least some form of forgiveness for him so that I can better my life, or realize I have gotten answers and they did not help and then I can move on that way. I NEED this for MY well-being. It in no way can be anymore harmful to me then what is has been without me getting to say and ask what I need to. He has served half his sentence now. I still have only begun mine. I guess to understand what I go through I would like to explain my problems. I sleep about 4 hours a night, if that, still total. I have nightmares almost every night about what happened. I am on medication that allows me to sleep with out as many nightmares and sleep that long. I am afraid of people, I have problems with trust, I am agoraphobic (fear of leaving a safe place). I panic if I cant handle a situation (which can be as simple as,and has been, shopping), or over nothing at all. I have flashbacks-I see him, smell him. breath him. hear him-all as if it was happening again. No matter what else I have tried this still happens. I have been on medications and still take them, I see a councilor and a therapist and have since 1999. I go to support meetings. None of these things gives me the answers I need. I have spoken to my father but never really about what happened, he said he was sorry right after he got into the prision system, other then that it has been a lot of small talk---weather, his job, and his Hep C. The letters have helped me deal a little better with the extreme, horrible, hatred I used to have, now its a more tolerable hate. I just want these things better. I know they will never go away totally. Incest and rape go back in my family as far as I can find (which is only my grandparents as I no longer talk to that side of my family because they believe that my father was with in his rights.) My grandfather started mentioning having sex with me along with my father the next time he came up. I thank the lord that I was able to tell on my father, which was hard, before that happened. I believe this would have happened to everyone in my family if I would not have stopped it including my daughter. It happened to my older step-sisters and some friends. I stopped the rapes before it continued to my little sister or my daughter. Now I need my closure also. I do not care if he sees the prision walls until he is dead or is released tomorrow as long as I have my chance to be better first. I seriously think I have ADD, but my parents don't believe in it. What are my options? I am prettty sure that I have ADD and I really feel that it's seriously affecting my school work. I'm 19 and in college, so I went to the campus health center to get some information about it. They told me that they don't diagnose it there and that I would have to go to a doctor's office. Here is the problem: I still live with my parents and they obviously pay for my healthcare, etc. They don't believe in ADD, so I highly doubt they would want me to take medication for it, pay for my visit, etc. What can I do? I could just go to the doctor myself, but that would be expensive b/c I would have to pay for it all by myself without the help of my parent's health insurance. I don't have a GP right now (in between doctors), but I have a gynecologist who I will be seeing again soon. Can I ask my gynecologist about it? Any suggestions on what to do in this situation? My school work is S-E-R-I-O-U-S-L-Y suffering due to my inability to focus.
Could Child care be linked to future violence in society thanks to the femi extremist revolution? Child Care Linked To Assertive, Noncompliant, and Aggressive Behaviors Vast Majority of Children Within Normal Range The more time children spent in child care from birth to age four-and-a-half, the more adults tended to rate them, both at age four-and-a-half and at kindergarten, as less likely to get along with others, as more assertive, as disobedient, and as aggressive, according to a study appearing in the July/August issue of Child Development. However, the researchers cautioned that for the vast majority of children, the levels of the behaviors reported were well within the normal range. In fact, a mother's sensitivity to her child was a better indicator of reported problem behaviors than was time in child care, with more sensitive mothering being linked to less problem behaviors. Higher maternal education and family income also predicted lower levels of children's problem behaviors.. The findings are from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development. "It's important to put these findings in perspective," said Duane Alexander, M.D., Director of the NICHD. "The amount of time in child care is one of several family and child care factors linked to children's behaviors, both positive and negative." The NICHD launched the study of early child care in 1991. The 27 researchers conducting the study have been following the development of more than 1000 children from across the United States. The children were enrolled in the study at birth and come from an ethnically and economically diverse sample of families. In addition to focusing on time in child care, the current article focused on several other aspects of the child care experience: the quality of the child care arrangement, the proportion of time that the child was in a child care center, the proportion of time that the child was cared for in a group setting, and the number of times that the mother reported that the child started a new child care arrangement. In the current article, the researchers describe how child care experiences in the first four-and-a-half years of the children's lives relate to children's social competence and behavior problems, when the children were four-and-a-half years old, and later, when they reached kindergarten. The study measured children's social behavior by having mothers, child care providers and teachers complete standardized ratings of children's behavior problems and social competence-their ability to get along with children and adults and their ability to follow social rules. Information about the number of hours the children were in child care was obtained from the mothers every 3-4 months. The link between time in child care and problem behavior was greater than the link between infant temperament and problem behavior or maternal depression and problem behavior. This link between time in child care and problem behavior was also greater for children in center-based care than for children in other types of care. The study authors noted that, of the children who displayed problem behaviors, the majority were well within the normal range. A small proportion of children showed levels of problem behavior that should be monitored to see if they developed into more serious problems. The proportion of children showing these higher levels of problem behavior is commensurate with the proportion of children in the U.S. population as a whole who also display these problems. The link between time in child care and problem behavior occurred across all family backgrounds and all types and quality of care. The authors added that the time in child care during infancy did not appear to have a greater bearing on the children's behavior than did the time they spent in care after infancy. The researchers also found evidence that children who experienced better quality child care-in which caregivers provided intellectual stimulation and were warm, positive, and sensitive to child behavior-had fewer child caregiver/teacher-reported problem behaviors and conflict than did children who experienced lower quality care. The researchers noted, however, that high quality child care did not eliminate the link between hours in care and behavior problems. The researchers could find no threshold of child-care hours above which problem behaviors were especially likely to emerge. To illustrate the reported findings that were based on the information from the group as a whole, the researchers classified the children into four groups, based on the amount of time they spent in child care: 16 percent of children were in child care an average of 0-9 hours a week 38 percent for 10-29 hours 36 percent for 30-45 hours 10 percent for more than 45 hours a week. In each of these groups, a minority of the children had a high score on behavior problems. However, the percent of children with high scores increased with the increase in the number of hours children spent in child care. Children were rated by mothers and teachers on items such as: child demands a lot of attention; argues a lot; bragging and boasting; cruelty, bullying or meanness to others; destroys things belonging to others; disobedient at home; disobedient at school; gets into many fights; lying or cheating; screams a lot. One of the important findings of this study is that the strongest predictor of how well a child behaves was a feature of maternal parenting that the researchers described as sensitivity--how attuned a mother is to a child's wants and needs. The behaviors of the sensitive mother are child centered; the sensitive mother is aware of the child's needs, moods, interests, and capabilities. She allows this awareness to guide her interactions with her child. Children of more sensitive mothers were more competent socially, less likely to engage in disruptive behavior, and less likely to be involved in conflicts with their caregivers and teachers. Similarly, children whose parents had higher incomes and who were more highly educated also were more socially competent and less likely to engage in problem behaviors. The study authors noted that their study was not designed to prove a cause and effect relationship. That is, the study cannot prove whether spending more time in child care causes children to have more problem behaviors. The behavior problems the researchers documented might be due to some other characteristic of the children or of their environment. Accompanying editorials in the July/August issue of Child Development offer possible explanations. Findings previously reported from the NICHD Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development showed that more time in care predicted more problem behavior among two-year olds, but not among three-year olds; less sensitive maternal behavior and less harmonious mother-child interaction when children were 6-36 months of age; as well as higher rates of insecure attachment to the mother if the mother's parenting was relatively insensitive. Preliminary findings pertaining to the research questions posed and answered by the current article were presented at the meeting of the Society for Research in Child Development in April of 2001. In the future, the researchers plan to focus on the relation between hours spent in child care and children's behavior during the school years. ### The NICHD is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the biomedical research arm of the federal government. Can anyone simplify this for me? TENSIONS BETWEEN SERVICE USER AND THE ORGANISATION We have already dicussed the service users needs, and tensions that can arise betwwen these snd the organisation. It must be remembered that all service users have the right to: - confidentiality - choice - not to be discriminated against - practise their culteral and religious beleifs - make a complaint - have access to their health records - equal and fair treatment - protection - safety and security - be given clear accurate information Organisations must comply with these rights. To do so, they will have policies and guidelines to provide a safe and secure environment for all who use their facilities. Policies for individual settings could be those that are specific to that setting or they could originate from a parent organisation. For example, the NHS has policies which settings such as hospitals, GO practices, health centers & clinics use a basis of their own policies.
Did You See This ? More illegal immigrants are pouring into Texas to give birth? 'Border baby' boom strains S. Texas More illegal immigrants are pouring into the state to give birth By JAMES PINKERTON Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle RIO GRANDE CITY — First it was a trickle, now it's a flood. Rising numbers of undocumented immigrants from Mexico and Central America are streaming into Texas to give birth, straining hospitals and costing taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars, health officials say. Doctors and health officials say they are overwhelmed by both the new arrivals and those immigrant mothers who already are in the state. Even Houston's feeling the pinch. An estimated 70 percent to 80 percent of the 10,587 births at Ben Taub General Hospital and Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital last year were to undocumented immigrants, administrators say. Also feeling the strain is Starr County, an already poor South Texas county that has the region's only taxpayer-supported hospital district. Immigrants "want a U.S.-born baby" and know that emergency room staffers don't collect any money up front, said Dr. Mario Rodriguez, an obstetrician in Starr County. "The word is out: Come to Starr County and get delivered for free. Why pay $1,000 in Mexico when you can get it for free?" Rodriguez said. ''When we are separated only by the distance of the river, it's easy to do," Starr County hospital administrator Thalia Muñoz said. "It's gotten worse, and it's because the economy in Mexico is not good and because we provide all these benefits." Unfortunately, doctors say, Starr County isn't alone. ''Our little snapshot is duplicated in all the municipalities between here and California," said Tony Falcon, a Rio Grande City physician who was appointed to the U.S.-Mexico Border Health Commission in April. ''What you see here is what is happening in Brownsville, McAllen, El Paso and San Diego." He operates a private family clinic and delivers babies at the Starr County hospital. About a third of his deliveries are what he calls "walk-ins" — mothers in labor showing up at the ER. ''Obviously, it has a huge impact on patient health and the kind of health care that's provided," Falcon said. "You don't get the kind of prenatal care you should get." 'Anchor babies' Immigration-control advocates regard the U.S.-born infants as "anchor babies" because they give their undocumented parents and relatives a way to petition for citizenship. They estimate that 360,000 of these babies are born in the U.S. every year and warn that the numbers are rising. Once parents have an "anchor baby," they become more difficult to deport, said Jack Martin, a spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform, a lobby organization in Washington, D.C. ''It's a fairly big factor in complicating the removal of illegal aliens," Martin said. "Illegal aliens know that and, to some extent, we think they're being influenced into having children as soon as they get into the U.S. to complicate their removal." Some lawmakers want to begin denying citizenship to babies born to illegal immigrants. Birthright citizenship, as it is known, has been in force since the approval of the Constitution's 14th Amendment in 1868. But several bills under consideration in Congress would abolish the longstanding federal policy. Sponsors include U.S. Reps. Ron Paul, R-Lake Jackson, and Nathan Deal, R-Ga. In a largely symbolic move, the Michigan House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly on Sept. 8 to end birthright citizenship. Undocumented immigrants say they are being attacked unfairly and think that all children born in the U.S. should have equal rights. Socorro Gonzalez, an undocumented immigrant who in August gave birth to her fourth child on U.S. soil, said she and her husband aren't trying to take advantage of immigration laws or abuse the health care system. ''We're not here to have a child. We are here to work," she said as she cradled her infant son, Orlando Soto. Gonzalez, 42, said she moved to South Texas four years ago to join her husband, a cabinet maker. Two of their older children were born at a private midwife's clinic, she said, and two were delivered at taxpayer expense at hospitals in McAllen. Gonzalez said the benefits of undocumented immigrants' labor in the U.S. more than compensate for the costs of their medical bills. ''I don't see why they should deny a medical service if we're here struggling for this country," she said. ''Because of the help of Mexican workers, whether they want us or not, this country is progressing." Still, someone has to pay the bills, and not everyone is happy about that. Uncollected medical bills Starr County Memorial Hospital had $3.6 million in uncollected medical bills in 2005, up from $1.5 million in 2002. The total when fiscal 2006 ends on Sept. 30 is expected to hit $3.9 million, chief financial officer Rafael Olivarez said. Unpaid bills for the past five years will reach nearly $13 million, he said. To make up for the shortfall, Starr County's hospital district is proposing a 25 percent tax hike. Already, the U.S. government is pitching in, setting aside $1 billion in Medicaid funds to pay for emergency care received by undocumented migrants over the next four years. But Olivarez said getting the reimbursements isn't easy. Federal officials ''told us at a meeting they would pay us about 20 cents on the dollar," he said. "But it's better than nothing." No one knows for sure how many undocumented immigrants there are or what they cost the health care system. Most hospitals don't ask whether patients have papers. Total cost unknown ''It puts them in the position of being border police," said Amanda Engler, a spokeswoman for the Texas Hospital Association in Austin. Harris County Hospital District officials say their policy is not to question patients directly about their citizenship. ''We do not explicitly ask if our patients are illegal, but we do ask them for proof of Harris County residency," district spokeswoman Shannon Rasp said. "Often citizenship status becomes clearer when billing issues come up." Eighty-three percent of the undocumented immigrants receiving in-patient care at the district's hospitals and clinics last year were from Mexico, officials said. Six percent were from El Salvador or Guatemala. And the remaining 11 percent were from such countries as Britain, Canada, Haiti, India, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria and Vietnam. ''Using anecdotal information provided us by our staff, statistics from other public hospital systems and our patient demographics, we believe that approximately 70 to 80 percent of our obstetrics patients are undocumented," Rasp said. In all, 57,072 patients visited the district's hospitals, clinics and health centers last year, and nearly a fifth were undocumented, Rasp said. The cost of their treatment was $97.3 million, up from $55 million in 2002. angela R you don't know where I live I know all about Texas I don't need you to advise me on the state. Does not detect a antivirus program; generate a system health report? When I do that everything is normal and okay except for one thing. It says that the Security Center has not recorded an antivirus product. PIC: http://i39.tinypic.com/33xac7s.jpg but when I do open up Security Center it says I do have a running AntiVirus Program which happens to be Avira AntiVir Premium 9.0, not the security suite. I am confused? I got there by Windows Vista: Start > Control Panel > System and Maintence > Performance Information Tools > Advanced Tools (to the left) > Generate a System Health Report
Can asbestos be found in and around railroads? I was interested in purchasing a property where the railroad was litterally outside my yard or in this case the terrace. Its such a sweet deal but as with anything in life, there is always a price to pay. In this case, I fear it would be my health. The fact that asbestos was a common material for just about everything, it concerns me to purchase property so close to the railroad. At first, I didn't think I could get used to the noise, but a major power line plus railroad tracks which would face the center of the apt freaks me out b/c of the possibility of developing a serious disease. In the city any pce of land is prime but at what costs. Its sad that developers do not disclose this information to you and you only have the opportunity to do an inspection when you're in contract. After 9/11, a rep from DEP or was it the EPA stated the air quality was safe. Unfortunately, she developed serious lung conditions and admitted years later the air quality really wasn't safe.
Cheapest form of Health Care? I live in Florida. I don't have health insurance and I am a college student with 2 part time jobs so not a lot of money. I think I need to see a doctor since I have been having unbearable pain in my right side just below my rib cage for 4 days now. I thought it was gas/constipation however I have done many things (prunes, prune juice, gas-x, milk of magnesia, etc.) over the last 3 days for this diagnosis but the pain hasn't gone away. I was thinking about going to the Health Department (I heard they charge based off of income) but I am affraid they won't have all the technology (x-ray,etc) they may need. Should I go to the emergency room or a urgent care center. I know some emergency rooms have programs for low income as well but what about urgent care places. Please help any information will be greatly appreciated. Well I gave up and went to the ER - at first they thought it was a gall bladder problem but it turns out I have kidney stones and a cyst on my right kidney.
Problems that i need to check with my 8 week old kitten from a rescue center? Hi, i am a pet owner (8 year old cat and 4 year old dog) and on New Year's Eve i rescued an 8 week old kitten from a cattery/rescue center. I am a big worrier and i am concerned about his health after living in close proximity with many other animals. He has tiny brown bits of discharge, kind of like sleep under his eyes and on the edges of his nostrils and quite a round stomach. He also has stools which are runny but with some formation. However, he is bouncing around, playing and eating and drinking very well. He is also sleeping well. I know that i am probably being a bit paranoid but i want him to have the best start to life possible. The only information i know about him from the kennels is: 1) 8 weeks old 2) checked by a vet the day before i got him (however, i don't know how thorough the examination was.) He hasn't had any vaccinations yet- he is booked in for the 10th of January. Should i make this sooner? I also do not know if he has been tested for feline leukemia. Sorry that this is so long but i am a great worrier and any advice would be greatly appreciated. I want my little kitty to live for a long time! :) He has also been wormed and had flea treatment at the shelter

Is this new fuze and filtered water a health craze or money craze? Recently my school has started serving fuze drinks. I started reading the labels on the bottles and didn't really understand why the pitch was so centered on vagueness in the bottle's nutritional information Super Citramix to the rescu. After reading some posts at : I found people who didn't like fuze. Anyone else think it's unhealthy effects are worse than the healthy? How good is it? http://consumerist.com/consumer/deep-thoughts/is-fuze-violating-labeling-law-by-making-bogus-health-claims-304162.php Also i found that :"Nowhere on Earth does de-mineralized water occur naturally. Distillation and R.O. systems produce de-mineralized water with an acidic pH. Many recent reports claim that "prolonged consumption of distilled or de-mineralized water can only lead to some form of mineral deficiency"." So is this the same as filtered water? Do we really get a noticeable (>.1%) of our minerals from water? http://www.healthyfilteredwater.com/waterfaq Is this health craze really a money craze
Free flu shots & safety? What are the differences between free flu shots from a local health center & one that is paid for at a private doctor's clinic? Are there risks? And what are the side effects of (free) flu shots? (I have heard that it may cause things like fevers and colds - why? Isn't it to PREVENT illness, not give it to you?) All answers and information are appreciated. Oh, and the free flu shot in question is in a Los Angeles public health care center, if that helps with any answers. Thanks!
Do I have a right to know? Hi I have an aunt that's been a mental health center for over a year now. It's on my dads side of the family. We've never been that close with them. They are very stubborn and old fashion and refuse to tell us what mental health problem she has. I know all the time your asked on physicals if there's a history of mental health problems in your family and I know I have to say yes but I can't answer what problem it is. If I were to call the center that my aunt is at am I able to get information as to what it is she's diagnosed with for my records? Do i have a right to this information? Also I have to add that my father has been experiencing the same symptoms as my aunt and we are concerned he may have the same thing.

If the media is not liberal then why are they not reporting the progress in Iraq? Evidence of improvement in Iraq. By Bill Crawford An important step in stemming the violence in Iraq is to find a formula to share the country’s oil revenues fairly between the three main groups: Shiite, Sunnis, and Kurds. Iraq is preparing to take a step in the right direction by providing opportunities for foreign oil firms to invest in the country, thereby increasing its output and revenues: The production-sharing agreements (PSAs) would allow oil giants to sign 30-year contracts for extracting Iraqi oil. Under PSAs, the state retains legal ownership of its oil but gives a share of the profits to companies that invest in infrastructure and in operating the wells, pipelines and refineries. The newspaper [the Independent] said that under the draft law, oil companies could recoup 60 to 70 per cent of revenue until initial costs had been recovered, which compares to around 40pc usually. Along the same lines, Lt. General Graeme Lamb, Deputy Commander of Multinational Forces-Iraq, sees 2007 as the year that Iraq moves forward, and says he sees plenty of progress to base his optimism on: Let me give you an example. I was out at Hit the other day, Ramadi. The battalion commander out there, young battalion commander — actually, I suppose he's not that young; he just looks it — had been in Ramadi two years before, had done a full year's tour. As far as he was concerned, he always just seemed to be going backwards. When I saw him the other day, as far as he was concerned, they were making huge progress. Ramadi. Four months ago I don't think there was any policemen in the town. Seven hundred and ninety-one now. They were shot at from a building. Two hundred policemen drawn together surrounded the building, cleared it. Now, that's just an example of some progress. I then look at some of the economic issues. I look at the megawatts of power that are coming on line. I see some of the reconstruction programs that are going out. Now, that gives me a degree of optimism. I see this prime minister. I see this government. I see the challenges they face, and I'm not trying to dismiss the difficulties or trying to give you some sort of political upbeat spin. I don't do optimism. I don't do pessimism. I just do realism as I see it. And I do spend a lot of time out here. I spend a lot of time out here. I got a feel for the Arabs. So it's just the way I see it, and it's not sort of in effect trying to — I don't know — make something out of nothing. I think the situation here — you know, as someone once said — I think it was a field marshal of ours said things are never as good or as bad as you think they are. I just see these in fact at a point in turning. Mosul and al Qaim are other areas where significant progress has been made over the past year. In Mosul, Iraqi police and army forces have brought law and order to a historically violent area: “Yes, there is violence in this city. But, there is violence in American cities that have nearly two million people in their population as well,” said [Maj. Gen. Benjamin R.] Mixon. Recognizing the similar levels of violence in a comparable city in America, Twitty paints an optimistic picture of the current state of Mosul and Ninewa Province. “Amidst the turmoil and issues that persist in Iraq, there is a semblance of peace and normalcy in the north. Ninewa’s leadership works hard to provide its citizens security, build its economy, and implement programs that will continue to keep sectarian violence from the province,” said Twitty. “One thing we cannot do is attempt to put an American standard on any Iraqi city,” said Twitty. “We have to remember that this country lived under a dictator for more than 30 years. The major and significant difference between U.S. cities and Mosul is the use of improvised explosive devices, rocket-propelled grenades, and other military - grade weapons. Anti-Iraqi forces persist in their attacks, but the Iraqi security forces, consisting of the Iraqi Army, border patrol and police, continue to quell those attacks daily,” Twitty continued. Al Qaim was frequently called the “Wild West,” but the Marines cleaned the area up in 2005, and the situation is improving daily: Two years ago, the same streets were fraught with roadside bombs and snipers, and sellers and buyers stayed away. The area was considered too dangerous even for a quick tour by a U.S. general in his armored Humvee. The Al Qaim region routinely was described as an out-of-control "wild west" where the Marines were fighting, with only limited success, to control the smuggling of insurgent fighters and weapons from Syria. Today, Marines walk the downtown beat, chatting with residents, fielding their complaints, encouraging them to contact the Iraqi police if they suspect insurgent activity. In a country studded with areas where the United States either has failed or had only limited progress toward stabilization, Husaybah and the surrounding Al Qaim region stand out as a success, officials said. Unfortunately, the American people aren’t hearing about this, as Army medic Corporal Ignacio Garza observes: Based on his experiences in Iraq, events there are not as bad as the news media make it seem, an Army medic from Adrian said. Cpl. Ignacio Garza, a medic in the 1st Armored Division home on leave after serving in Iraq for six months, said the troops don’t watch television news for war updates because they think none of the networks show an accurate depiction of what’s happening. He said they ignore large parts of the country, including the Kurd-dominated north, that are stable. In fact, if the mainstream media isn’t ignoring a story in Iraq they could just as easily be making one up. For the second time in six weeks, the Associated Press has put out a story from Iraq that isn’t backed by the facts: The Associated Press has again put out an Iraq story detailing events that did not happen. This time, it involves an airstrike that, " killed a family of four during a firefight." However, according to the press desk of Multi-National Forces-Iraq, no air strike happened during that firefight, and MNF-I also reported that which six insurgents were killed by American troops in Baghdad on January 1. This is the second time in roughly six weeks that the AP has been caught fabricating events. Iraqi Security Forces In an operation on January 7, members of the 6th Iraqi army division captured the leader of a cell responsible for kidnappings, murder, IED attacks, and car bombings. Near Baqubah, soldiers of the 5th Iraqi army killed three insurgents during an operation to capture a cell leader. The Iraqi patrol came under fire from men exiting a mosque. They returned fire, killing three. The 1st Iraqi army division assumed tactical command of the 2nd Brigade on January 9. The brigade will operate within Fallujah: “We will be loyal soldiers to defend our precious country and to implement security and stability,” said Brig. Gen. Khalid Juad Khadum, the commanding general of 2nd Brigade. “And this will hit the pages of history in godly words, and we promise Allah that we will take care of this handover and to protect it, God willing, until the last drop of our blood, and Allah is a witness of what we say.” The Iraqi police enlisted 301 recruits during a recent recruiting drive in Fallujah and Habbaniyah. The new recruits will undergo six-week basic training in Jordan. Another 400 were enlisted during a recruiting drive in Ramadi. The situation was far different last year: One year ago a murderous intimidation campaign prevented local Iraqis from enlisting in Ramadi. Recruiting numbers for police were insignificant. More than 1,000 enlisted in the police force last month. Over 800 are expected to enlist in Anbar Province this month. “The local tribes stood up to the intimidation campaign and are taking back their city from the terrorists,” said the Coalition spokesman in Ramadi Marine Maj. Riccoh Player. “Hundreds of Iraqi Police are holding areas cleared by Iraqi and American forces in recent operation in the worst neighborhoods of Ramadi,” said Player. “Building and manning a police station in Ramadi is what progress looks like in a counterinsurgency.” Based on tips from Iraqi civilians, the Iraqi national police, with Coalition forces, detained ten and uncovered several weapons caches during an operation in Baghdad: The operation was the result of tips from local citizens of possible insurgents and weapons caches in the neighborhood. The national police seized three large weapons caches containing one rifle fitted with a silencer, one machine gun, one sniper rifle, assorted small arms ammunition and bomb-making materials. In Fallujah, Iraqi police and army troops captured 47 insurgents during Operation Ar Bead. The operation was planned and executed by Iraqi troops, who have tamed the once restless city: “The district police chief – this was his idea,” said Lt. Col. Race Roberson, the RCT-5 police implementation officer. “It was (an Iraqi Security Forces) operation; they were the owners of it.” ”The police are a strong force, and they will go anywhere at anytime in the city of Fallujah,” Roberson said. The Iraqi army has begun a major operation in Baghdad. Thirty terrorists were reported killed on the first day, including five from Sudan. The 2nd Division of the Iraq army is now operating independently of Coalition forces. In Qasaiba, soldiers of the 5th Iraqi Army Division captured the leader of an insurgent cell operating in the area: The insurgent cell leader is suspected of limiting the travel of Iraqi civilians in the area through intimidation and violent criminal activities. It is also believed the cell leader coordinates and conducts kidnapping, torture and murders of Iraqi civilians and security forces in the area. On January 10, Iraqi soldiers rescued a kidnapping victim: Working on a tip, Iraqi troops from the 1st Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 9th Iraqi Army Division (Mechanized) searched for the kidnapping victim’s vehicle. They discovered it on a farm. Upon conducting a cordon and search of the farm, the soldiers found the kidnapped Iraqi in a farmhouse unharmed, with his hands tied. Iraqi Special Security Forces captured two leaders of an insurgent cell during an operation in Al Doura. The cell is responsible for car bombings against civilians in Sadr City and IED attacks against Iraqi security forces. In Tal Afar, Iraqi police killed four insurgents after they came under attack while on patrol. A later search of the area found a weapons cache consisting of 12 RPGs and two mortar shells. Iraqi army special forces captured 19 during an operation targeting the leader of an insurgent cell responsible for attacks against Iraqi civilians and Coalition forces. During two operations in Fallujah, Iraqi soldiers captured six members of al Qaeda. The men are suspected of involvement with IED attacks against Coalition troops and weapons trafficking. Iraqi security forces joined Marines and U.S. soldiers in conducting a successful operation to clean up Ramadi: Iraqi Army, police and Coalition forces seized hundreds of weapons and explosives during the operation, including three mortar systems, 101 mortar rounds, 90 pounds of explosives, eight rocket-propelled grenade launchers, 47 AK-47s, five Dragonov sniper rifles, 26 grenades, 26 mines, 34 artillery rounds, 12 rockets and other items used to attack Ramadi’s security forces and civilians. During the operation 44 enemy combatants were killed and 172 suspected insurgents were detained. The Iraqi army captured a high-level insurgent leader during a raid in Hajjan: The suspect is allegedly an experienced IED builder and an illegal armed group member. He was believed to be training other illegal armed group members how to construct and employ IEDs. Prime Minister al-Maliki has finally been convinced to drop his protection of the Mahdi army. The move came after U.S. officials convinced al-Maliki that the militia was infiltrated by Shiite death squads. In related news, Sadr’s political block is ending its two month boycott of parliament. Two tips led Iraqi national police to a kidnapping victim and a sizeable weapons cache in Baghdad: “This raid was planned and executed entirely by the Iraqi national police,” said Maj. Blaine Wales, the team chief for the 1st Battalion, 7th Brigade, 2nd Iraqi National Police Transition Team. The weapons cache consisted of 31 mortar and artillery rounds, 12 rolls of detonation cord, one can of ball bearings, three blocks of C4 explosive, 100 blasting caps and fuses, two completed improvised explosive devices, multiple batteries of all types, four handheld radios, nine cellular phones and seven completed electronic circuit boards similar to those found in roadside bombs. In eastern Baghdad, an Iraqi patrol found an IED before it could be detonated. In Baghdad, an Iraqi army patrol successfully fought its way out of an ambush: While conducting a routine patrol in Baghdad’s Fahhama neighborhood, an element of the 1st Battalion, 1st Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army was ambushed by a group of insurgents armed with pistols and AK-47s. The patrol immediately returned fire on the men attacking them. Two insurgents were killed and four others wounded in the fire fight. Tips from citizens led Iraqi police to two large weapons caches: The first cache included fifteen 9mm TNT rounds, a dozen 90mm Composition A3 rounds, five 155mm High Explosive rounds, four artillery fuses, six 20mm rockets, and nine RPG rounds among other items. The second cache included two 105mm rounds rigged as improvised explosive devices. Iraqi Police captured the leader of al Qaeda in Iraq’s cell in Samarra during an operation on January 18. Iraqi forces captured two high-level insurgent commanders in separate raids: Special Iraqi army forces, with coalition advisors, captured a high-level terrorist leader today during operations in eastern Baghdad, military officials said. The suspect is allegedly affiliated with Abu Dura and other Baghdad death squad commanders, and is responsible for assassinating numerous Iraqi security forces members and government officials. Military officials said he has also organized kidnappings, torture and murder of Iraqi civilians. During operations in Samarra yesterday, Iraqi police forces with coalition advisors captured the suspected leader of several al Qaeda in Iraq terror cells. The suspect is responsible for directing several IED and small arms attacks against Iraqi security forces, coalition forces and Iraqi civilians. During the operation, combined forces captured an additional insurgent and confiscated IED components, assault rifles and ammunition. In Morocco, security forces have disrupted a cell responsible for recruiting terrorists to fight in Iraq: Moroccan security forces have dismantled a radical cell recruiting volunteers to fight in Iraq and arrested 26 people, the government said on Thursday. In Tal Afar, Iraq forces discovered a tunnel leading below a house where they found a weapons cache consisting of 200 pounds of explosives, more than 125 rockets, and 2,500 rounds of ammunition. Over at the Department of Defense website, a map of Iraq shows the progress made by Iraq’s army over the last year. “Green areas” indicate areas under control of Iraqi forces. The “green areas” increase significantly as the year progresses. Check it out. Security Operations Raids across Iraq targeting al Qaeda resulted in the capture of 25 suspected terrorists. Nine terrorists were killed in a series of raids in Baghdad over the weekend: Nine terrorists, including an al-Qaeda leader, were killed during raids conducted by coalition forces in Baghdad today and yesterday. Also, one terrorist was wounded, and three were detained during the raids. A known al-Qaeda weapons dealer was among those killed during today's Baghdad raid, according to officials. Another terrorist was wounded in the action, while two more were detained. The wounded terrorist was provided first aid and transported to a nearby medical facility. Coalition forces had targeted the weapons dealer, whose body was identified by his wife. In other news, coalition troops killed six terrorists and detained one suspect during a fierce morning firefight in Baghdad yesterday, officials reported. Intelligence reports indicated the targeted location was used as a possible al Qaeda in Iraq safe house for terrorists to conduct operational planning. Another 90 al Qaeda terrorists were killed by American and Iraqi forces during a ten-day operation near Baghdad. A patrol consisting of troops from the 1st Cavalry Division uncovered seven weapons caches in the village of Arab Salman Salman: …uncovered the caches, which included 51 rocket-propelled grenade rounds; 11 RPG launchers; two assault rifles with 13,000 rounds of ammunition; six 57mm rockets; eight plastic explosives; two 120mm artillery shells; two 137mm missiles; 225 pounds of explosives; and other IED-making materials. Iraqi and Coalition troops discovered a weapons cache in Yusufiyah consisting of materials used in the manufacture of IEDs: The cache, which contained a variety of improvised explosive device making items and weapons included six 120mm mortar rounds, a directional charge, five rocket propelled grenade launchers, seven RPG charges, nine RPG rockets, 150 small metal cylinders filled with plastic explosives, 1000 7.62mm rounds, 200 ft. of detonation cord, seven hand grenade fuses, five hand grenade shells, five long-range antennae, 22 transformers, four cordless phones, two cordless phone base stations, two cell phones, 12 cell phone cases with assorted parts and 12 60mm mortar round casings. Twenty-eight suspected terrorists were captured during raids across Iraq which targeted the safe houses of foreign terrorists. Over the past month, paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne have found more than 500 artillery rounds that could have been used to make IEDs or VBEIDs. Reconstruction & Economy If it were any other country, the reconstruction of Iraq would be a huge story. As of December 31, 2006, there are 658 projects underway at a cost of $2.67 billion, 3,026 projects have been completed at a cost of $7.11 billion, and 94 more projects are planned. A $43 million upgrade to the Al Basrah oil terminal is expected to be completed by April. The upgrade includes an emergency shutdown system, control valves, metering system, and fire protection. The upgraded terminal will meet all international safety and metering standards. Twenty hospitals throughout Iraq are currently undergoing $103 million in renovations. A small water project was completed in Dahuk Province. The new water storage tank and pipeline serves more than 1,000 residents of Dahuk. An $8.6 million renovation to the Samawah Railroad Maintenance Center has been completed. The Samawah site is one of two railway maintenance centers in Iraq, and employs more than 250 Iraqis. Iraq’s power grid is now being monitored by a central control system, called SCADA: “The main function of SCADA is to create and maintain a digital connection in order to check the provinces’ power loads and control them easily by connecting them to the central power distribution points,” Perry said. The SCADA system includes input and output signal hardware, controller networks, and communications software. There are 47 primary health-care centers under construction in northern Iraq. The first completed center recently opened in Salah Al Den Province: More than 112,000 people in the Salah Al Den Province are receiving healthcare from the first completed Primary Healthcare Center (PHC) in the north. Built by local construction companies with quality assurance managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this $3.35 million dollar facility provides routine and initial emergency care to patients including X-ray, laboratories and dentistry. Medical supplies and laboratory equipment were included in the contract to make this facility complete and operational. On January 15, three new schools were opened in Mushahidah: an elementary school for girls, a secondary school for girls, and an elementary school for boys: “This is a great example for the projects in this area,” said Shiek Naif Moutlak, the chief of the city council. “We thank the coalition for all they have done and hope for other projects in the area to help the people.” The Pentagon is helping fight unemployment in Iraq by reopening factories that were once owned by Saddam Hussein: Under a new program, the U.S. Defense Department is already helping reopen factories that were owned by Saddam Hussein's government and abandoned by occupation authorities shortly after the 2003 U.S.-led invasion. The Pentagon may also start providing them with contracts to support U.S. troops. One factory restarted operations in the past two weeks, and nine more are to open by the end of this month, adding some 11,000 Iraqis to employment rolls, a Pentagon official said Wednesday. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the information had not been released yet. The president’s speech this week put Iran on notice that the U.S. was going to work to prevent its interference in Iraq. Iraqi forces took the first step in confronting Iran when they raided Iran’s diplomatic mission in Irbil: Iraqi officials said today that multinational forces detained as many as six Iranians in an overnight raid on Tehran's diplomatic mission in the northern city of Irbil just hours after President Bush gave details about his new military plan for Iraq. The forces stormed the Iranian mission at about 3 a.m., detaining the five staffers and confiscating computers and documents, two senior local Kurdish officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the information. Irbil is a city in the Kurdish-controlled north, 220 miles from Baghdad. Japan is preparing to loan Iraq $3.5 billion for reconstruction. In the city of Al Qosh, Medics from the 1st Cavalry Division treated more than 80 people during a humanitarian mission to the city: During the mission, one female physician’s assistant and one female pediatrician medically examined over 80 people; 65 percent children, and 35 percent women. Three dozen soccer balls were distributed to the children of the town, courtesy of a donation from a radio station in the United States, as well as clothing, toys, shoes, and school supplies.
Job Situation? Here's the situation: I just started a job that I now hate. My boss has me locating funding information all day every day. Today, my assignment was to survey the funding efforts of some mental health centers. I called all of them and only got through to only 3 of them. My boss kept asking me if I got through to anymore. Politely as I could, I explained to her that I could not reach anyone else for another couple of days because they were either out of the office or the center was closed for the day. I also explained to her that I could not find anymore funding resources

Protecting Health Freedom: By Ron Paul? Before the U.S. House of Representatives on May 2, 2007 Madam Speaker, I rise to introduce the Health Freedom Protection Act. This bill restores the First Amendment rights of consumers to receive truthful information regarding the benefits of foods and dietary supplements by codifying the First Amendment standards used by federal courts to strike down the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) efforts to censor truthful health claims. The Health Freedom Protection Act also stops the Federal Trade Commissions (FTC) from censoring truthful health care claims. The American people have made it clear they do not want the federal government to interfere with their access to dietary supplements, yet the FDA and the FTC continue to engage in heavy-handed attempts to restrict such access. The FDA continues to frustrate consumers' efforts to learn how they can improve their health even after Congress, responding to a record number of constituents' comments, passed the Dietary Supplement and Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA). FDA bureaucrats are so determined to frustrate consumers' access to truthful information that they are even evading their duty to comply with four federal court decisions vindicating consumers' First Amendment rights to discover the health benefits of foods and dietary supplements. FDA bureaucrats have even refused to abide by the DSHEA section allowing the public to have access to scientific articles and publications regarding the role of nutrients in protecting against diseases by claiming that every article concerning this topic is evidence of intent to sell a drug. Because of the FDA's censorship of truthful health claims, millions of Americans may suffer with diseases and other health care problems they may have avoided by using dietary supplements. For example, the FDA prohibited consumers from learning how folic acid reduces the risk of neural tube defects for four years after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended every woman of childbearing age take folic acid supplements to reduce neural tube defects. This FDA action contributed to an estimated 10,000 cases of preventable neural tube defects! The FDA also continues to prohibit consumers from learning about the scientific evidence that glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate are effective in the treatment of osteoarthritis; that omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of sudden-death heart attack; and that calcium may reduce the risk of bone fractures. The Health Freedom Protection Act will force the FDA to at last comply with the commands of Congress, the First Amendment, and the American people by codifying the First Amendment standards adopted by the federal courts. Specifically, the Health Freedom Protection Act stops the FDA from censoring truthful claims about the curative, mitigative, or preventative effects of dietary supplements, and adopts the federal court's suggested use of disclaimers as an alternative to censorship. The Health Freedom Protection Act also stops the FDA from prohibiting the distribution of scientific articles and publications regarding the role of nutrients in protecting against disease. This legislation also addresses the FTC's violations of the First Amendment. Under traditional First Amendment jurisprudence, the federal government bears the burden of proving an advertising statement false before censoring that statement. However, the FTC has reversed the standard in the case of dietary supplements by requiring supplement manufactures to satisfy an unobtainable standard of proof that their statement is true. The FTC's standards are blocking innovation in the marketplace. The Health Freedom Protection Act requires the government bear the burden of proving that speech should be censored. This is how it should be in a free, dynamic society. The bill also requires that the FTC warn parties that their advertising is false and give them a chance to correct their mistakes. Madam Speaker, if we are serious about putting people in charge of their health care, then shouldn't we stop federal bureaucrats from preventing Americans from learning about simple ways to improve their health. I therefore call on my colleagues to stand up for good health care and the First Amendment by cosponsoring the Health Freedom Protection Act.
Question about mail order sperm? I'm looking for a site that lets you order sperm samples to do home inseminations but I forget what site it is. It has like all the donor information just like it would at a clinic. I know the site is a health care center.
Is it true that you should not freeze water bottles because as they thaw they can release toxins? Johns Hopkins has recently sent this Memo out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well. Dioxin chemicals causes cancer, especially breast cancer. Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic. Recently, Dr. Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital, was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us.
Are they are violating federal law ? Two national civil rights organizations are criticizing Collin County commissioners for prohibiting nonprofit clinics from treating illegal immigrants with county funds. Officials with the League of United Latin American Citizens and the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund say they think commissioners are violating federal privacy and health care laws. "There's no constitutional basis to limit these kinds of programs to U.S. citizens," said Nina Perales, regional counsel for MALDEF in San Antonio. Commissioners maintain they can legally ask nonprofit clinics that receive county grants to report each patient's name, age, address, medical diagnosis and the last four digits of his or her Social Security number. "To me, it's not a racial situation," Commissioner Jerry Hoagland said. "It's an economic situation. If you don't want to abide by the rules, don't take the money." Several clinics have complained about the new reporting requirements, saying the policy forces them to violate patient confidentiality laws and play the role of immigration officer. Clinics can still treat illegal immigrants, as long as they use other funds, commissioners have stressed. The county is not seeking personal information on patients treated with other funds. One clinic, Children and Community Health Center of McKinney, has said it will reject its $30,000 grant rather than comply with the reporting requirements. Another, Frisco Cares Children's Clinic, says it may refuse its $11,000 grant. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/city/collin/stories/DN-outcry_07cco.ART.West.Edition1.3762b2a.html
