Do you think under the European and Canadian health systems the waits are too long?
Let's do this experiment: Go to the doctor of your choice, choice is important for you right? When you get there tell them you want to be screened for cancer. When they ask you about your insurance, tell them you have none. When they tell you how much it's going to cost, tell them you can't pay. Please let me know how long until you get your appointment. This is what 50 million Americans face and yet some say nobody is denied care and there are no waitlines...

- Their systems are GREAT. As long as you don't get sick or need some major medical care. Please tell me who's responsibility it is to make sure you have health insurance.
- LOL
- pay your own damned way.
- Im European, I've never waited for anything (in the hospital).
- OK,,,let me play from where I live, Texas,,,,I go to the doctor of my choice, I can do that,,,,I tell him I want a cancer screening,,,,he asks about my insurance,,,,,I give him my insurance card,,,,he calls the insurance company,,,they only cover 40%,,,,I have to fork over a grand first,,,I tell him I don't have it,,,he charges me $100 and tells me sorry, can't help you,,,,,five years later I'm dieing of cancer.
- I've experienced the Canadian health care system... and it isn't nearly as bad as the commercials being aired make it out to be. You never have to wait long if it's something serious. But the lines to see a specialist for an elective reason(not urgent) can be quite long. Like any healthcare system, you have to advocate on your own behalf. I mean, the commercials airing now against health care reform show "horror stories" from Canada... if these people didn't get the care they needed then they didn't seek it enough. If you go to a doctor and just say "I have a cough" and don't push to get tests the doctor will obviously tell you it's just a cold and send you on your way. It's like that everywhere.
- Been to Hospital many times for many reasons , I'm not dying and never been in danger of it in European hospitals, had surgery done before after less than a day of being admitted into hospital , the day i fell ill, its not so bad you know lol O ya it was free to , no doubt it would cost you guys like 10 grand lol
- insurance or not an american not afford to get really sick. now i am not just talking about a cold, i mean a real sickness, bad accident, born deformity, the cost of american health care is ridiculous, that's what needs to be addressed as well as health care. I had health insurance my entire adult life until two years ago, i lost my job, i continued to pay through cobra for awhile but then just couldn't afford it any longer. Insurance is so high because health care prices are astronomical. I mean really people do you ever really sit down and read an itemized statement from a hospital bill? But hey, we are the richest nation in the world, tell that to the 50 million who will probably die before their time because of inadequate health care. But I guess the right wingers would call that population control.
- Best to actually ask a Canadian or European that has it instead of carping about their system. Better yet ask an American who has lived & worked in other countries how their system compares to ours.
- This is why there are no wait lines. Besides they would probably die in the line anyways because of they way social medicine works.
- i don't think any Countries Health-care could have been worse than the Veterans Hospitals during the 70's through the 80's..........! a lot of Vets were getting un-screened tainted Blood transfusions that are just now showing the symptoms of Liver Disease from Hepatitis C...... i was there once when an Old Vet was coughing his Brains out for 6 hours before they finally saw him~! i had to go to the Hospital Administrator to get some Action done and file some complaints to get some of the Rude-Azz Staff Reprimanded~!
- theyre not that bad considering its free
